Surrender Your Pet

If you have tried all alternatives listed on our "Rehoming Your Pet" page and you still need to part ways with your pet, here are the requirements for surrendering your dog to Kern County Animal Services:

  • You must make an appointment to surrender your animal. Link below.
  • If you are surrendering more than 1 animal, an appointment must be made for each animal being surrendered. Exception - litter of puppies with mother.
  • Proof of ownership is required at the time of surrender. What we accept as proof may vary, depending on the circumstance.
  • Animal Services is not obligated to accept every animal presented for surrender.
  • Animal Services can only accept surrendered dogs at this time, and only from unincorporated Kern County residents. No cats.
  • Animals must:
    • Be at least 8 weeks of age.
    • Be in good health, with no apparent medical or behavioral issues.
    • Have documented proof of Bordetella and Parvo/Distemper vaccinations administered at least 72 hours prior to the appointment. Vaccination appointments may be available through KCAS.
