Surrender Your Pet

If you have tried all alternatives listed on our "Rehoming Your Pet" page and you still need to part ways with your pet, here are the requirements for surrendering an animal to Kern County Animal Services:

  • Animal Services is not obligated to accept every animal presented for surrender.
  • Animals must:
    • Be at least 8 weeks of age.
    • Be in good health, with no apparent medical or behavioral issues.
    • Have documented proof of Bordetella and Parvo/Distemper vaccinations administered at least 72 hours prior to the appointment. Vaccination appointments may be available through KCAS.
  • A $20 surrender fee will be charged per animal.
  • Proof of ownership is required at the time of surrender. What we accept as proof may vary, depending on the circumstance.
  • You must schedule an appointment to surrender your pet.
  • If more than one pet is being surrendered, an appointment must be scheduled for each individual animal.
  • Appointments will be available Monday through Saturday between 11am and 3pm, and on Wednesdays between 2pm and 6pm.
